Re-Inaugural Chapter Meeting: The Future of Fire - Sustainability and Fire Performance of Wood Structures

The Executive of SFPE has met and wishes to reinvigorate Chapter 30 which at one time was one of the most prominent in North America. A substantial fund has been accumulated that will enable a re-inaugural meeting to be held with a complimentary dinner for all those in attendance. The maximum attendance will be 40 persons.  SFPE national members, chapter members and potential members/guests are invited.

Delta Hotel, Ballroom, 4331 Dominion Street, Burnaby, BC

Time:

Registration and no host bar 5:30pm; dinner at 6:00pm, presentation starts 7:15 pm approx.

Dinner:

Free buffet dinner with a max admission of 40 persons

Chapter Meeting: Fire, Smoke and Radiation Damper Installation BC Sheet Metal Association (SMACNA-BC)

This presentation will cover the SMACNA manual; “Fire Smoke and Radiation Damper Installation Guide for HVAC Systems” (2002)

Some of the topics that will be covered are:

  • Contractor Qualifications
  • Applications, Plan & Specification responsibilities
  • Guidelines for proper Installations and sealing of Fire, Fire/Smoke dampers
  • Maintenance & inspection

Note: “HVAC Duct Systems Inspection Guide Manual” (2006) will be provided by SMACNA-BC free of charge to all attendees. The list price(s) of this manual is $168 / $118 plus applicable taxes.

BC SFPE Meeting Topic: Hybrid Water Mist Systems

Timothy Carman of Tyco Fire Suppression will give us a presentation on the new AUQASONIC hybrid water mist that uses nitrogen to atomize and discharge the water mist into the protected space. The presentation will review the basic fire principles of water mist, the appropriate uses and risks best protected with water mist, and will cover the technical details of the Auqasonic system.

Marioff Hi-Fog Water Mist

Victor Gameiro and Allan Rhodes of Marioff will be presenting at the Dinner meeting on October 29, 2007. The topic of discussion will be the "Recent Advances in High Pressure Water Mist Technology" the presentation will include aircraft hangar, data room, tunnel, bio-tech, airport, metro, hydroelectric, outdoor transformer and remote location applications / installations. We will cover data from European tunnel testing program.

Fire Detection Past, Present and Future from the European Perspective

The session will be presented by Andrew Brink of Siemens. He will give background on the first Cerberus smoke detectors and the evolution of the high voltage detection; the present state of the art of fire detection; and the future advances in Fire Detection being developed in Europe.
