Technical Positions in Wood Design and Fire Safety

The Canadian Wood Council, the national association representing Canadian manufacturers of wood products used in construction, seeks two highly motivated and skilled individuals to advance the use of wood products as a state-of-the-art building material.

The candidates will be responsible for strategic building code and standards initiatives; applied engineering problem-solving; developing new design tools and publications; and delivery of end products through seminars and media to targeted audiences, including engineers, architects, building officials and contractors.

Expertise in Fire Safety Design - The ideal candidate will be able to apply the principles and practices of fire safety engineering and design (i.e., SFPE Member); have building code regulations and construction knowledge; and have sound engineering and building science skills. A relevant engineering degree is desired, and professional registration is an asset. Ability to regularly travel within North America will be required.

Expertise in Wood Design – The ideal candidate will have knowledge of wood properties and behaviour; have structural engineering and building science skills; and have construction knowledge. A wood science or relevant engineering degree is required, and professional registration is an asset. Ability to travel within North America will be required.

In addition, both candidates should have strong communication skills both written and oral; sound computer skills; an understanding of the wood products industry; and the ability to work in an English and French environment. Both positions are based in Ottawa.
