Senior Mechanical Engineer (Fire Protection)

DUTIES: The successful candidate will:

Provide specialized expertise in the design, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting for water based mechanical fire protection systems (sprinklers, deluge and water supplies)
Manage multiple projects & tasks of varying complexity
Provide leadership to other team members
Carry out fire hazard assessments of BC Hydro facilities
Carry out risk analysis of fire and life safety hazards
Conduct testing and commissioning of all types of fire protection systems
Provide training on the inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems
Interpret building and fire codes
Formulate fire protection and safety design standards
Audit the fire protection and safety of BC Hydro facilities

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have:

A degree in engineering with preference given to candidates with a degree in Fire Protection Engineering and Mechanical Engineering
A minimum of eight years of experience in the detailed design of water-based fire protection systems
Eligibility for registration as a professional engineer with the association of professional engineers and geoscientists of BC (APEG)
Excellent communication, project management, and computer skills
Expertise in design, testing, risk analysis, project management and leadership in fire protection
Experience in industrial fire protection and performance-based fire protection
Well developed technical report writing, test analysis, problem resolution, interpersonal and presentation skills
A valid driver's license.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This Engineer will be part of our fire protection team providing support for fire protection projects and general fire safety consulting
The successful candidate will be required to do some traveling to the field, sometimes outside of the country
Candidates with less experience will be considered for an intermediate-level engineering position.
