Vancouver Airport Authority (YVRAA) seeking a Fire Safety Engineer

Key Responsibilities

The Vancouver Airport Authority has an opening for a Fire Safety Engineer in the Engineering Services department.
Responsible for maintaining a high level of fire safety in the buildings on the airport properties. The engineer will review designs and construction to ensure that the code requirements are met in a consistent and reasonable manner. As a subject matter expert in the fire safety of buildings, you will assist others both internally and externally on Building Code and Fire Code issues. You will conduct fire safety inspections of the terminal buildings and review the fire safety inspections on other buildings. You will also develop capital, maintenance, and other programs to ensure problem areas are addressed.

Key Qualifications

A Bachelors degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical or Civil) along with experience designing or reviewing fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and other building and fire code requirements. The successful candidate will qualify for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGBC, and will have completed the Certified Professional Program. Experience with equivalencies or alternate solutions to building code requirements is also key to this role. An exceptional team player, you will use your interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to develop effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including consultants and contractors. Exceptional organizational and time management skills are also required, as well as solid problem solving, decision-making skills, and advanced knowledge of the MS Office applications.

Knowledge of CAD software, familiarity with an airport environment and project management experience would be considered assets.
